Across the Commonwealth, hazardous materials response calls are increasingly a result of drug production related hazards and homemade explosives, include small scale, in-home operations. First responders are regularly the first on the scene and due to the emerging nature of drug and explosive production, are often unaware of the hazards that are present and may not be able to identify that a hazard even exits.
Public Health and Boards of Health have a unique and specialized role in the response to and recovery from these residential based hazardous materials incidents. This training will review how to recognize the hazards of in-home hazardous production and review Public Health/Board of Health responsibilities.
A training will be held in each county of western Massachusetts. The training will be held at regularly scheduled public health coalition meetings and health agent meetings. The training is free. The following training schedule has been established. The training for Hampden County is yet to be scheduled. Please watch this post for more information.
